my favorite linux setup
It had been a long time since I had migrated from Linux to macOS. Back then, I chose the convenience of a closed system over the freedom—and friction—of Arch Linux. At that point in my life, practicality mattered more than control.
Now, two years later, the desire to use the computer as a hobby—and not just as a tool—has brought me back to open source.
Alongside my paper journal, retrogaming, MP3 players, and FM radio, Linux has become part of an attempt to reclaim my attention in a dystopian present driven by algorithms.
More mature now, and working as a software engineer at one of the largest financial companies in Brazil, I returned to Linux with the following setup:
ThinkPad T430
CachyOS
Kitty
Helium Browser
JetBrains Rider
Ranger
YouTube TUI
Newsboat
NL4W
Hyprland
Overall, the system looks visually striking and feels extremely fast.
